Game Recap

Starting the game against the Patriots with a new starting line up, the Cats had a strong first quarter with 7 different players scoring a field goal. In the second quarter, WJ got themselves into the bonus and Wooton attempted 15 free throws in the 1st half. WJ leading by 5 at halftime, came out in the 2nd half stale. Big man Ben Castellano got into foul trouble, and leading scorer Jonathon Newman was charged with a technical foul. Despite, losing momentum after these 2 scenarios, Spencer Mahane shot 6 of 8 from the free throw line in the 4th, to sustain the lead. With 5 minutes left, the Patriots bringing more pressure, Dwonn Williams, Josh Forburger, and Jonathan Newman each made a three pointer to secure the win. The Wildcats will look to win their 9th game against Whitman at home on Thursday January 19th at 5:30.

Game Recap

Wootton Patriots 54 Walter Johnson Wildcats 53
The Wildcats fall to the Patriots in a tight and exciting nailbiter in Rockville. The Cats fell behind early in the game trailing by 10 midway through the first period due in large part to 7 early turnovers. Once they got their bearings, however, WJ would close with an 11-5 run to pull within a point, 17-18 at the end of the first, and take a 31-29 lead into the halftime break. The 3rd quarter was back and forth and WJ ended the third with a slight 41-40 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Patriots surged ahead by 4 at the 3:05 mark at 48-52, but Chris Carlyle and Matt Collishaw each hit critical 2 point buckets to tie the game at 52. After the Pats went ahead by 2, the Wildcats made a strong effort, but could only add a free throw late to bring the final to a single point win for Wootton.
Soph forward Hank Roll had a break-out game, scoring 16 points, hitting 6 of his 7 shots from the field, including 2 from 3-point range. He nailed both of his free throws and added 4 steals for the Wildcats.
Collishaw led WJ in scoring with 17, hitting 8 of his 11 from the field, and added 4 assists.
Senior Nate Hochberg hit all of his 6 free throws, and currently is on a streak of 21 without a miss.
The Wildcats return to action at home on Thursday, 1/19, taking on the Whitman Vikings, tipoff scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Game Recap

Walter Johnson Wildcats 54 Wheaton Knights 47
The Wildcats sweep the home and away series with the Knights for the second straight year with balanced scoring and strong defense.
The Wildcats sputtered a bit in the first half, trailing by a point at 11-12 at the end of the first, but led 22-19 at the half. Notable in the first quarter was a must-see power jam by senior center Matt Collishaw who threw it down with authority off of a Chris Carlyle assist at the 3:12 mark of the period.
The Wildcats scored in double digits in each period for the third time in 2016-17. Nate Hochberg led the Wildcats in scoring with 16 points, nailing all 3 of his treys after the break and continuing his free throw streak with a 3 for 3 at the line tonight. Collishaw contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds. The line of the night likely goes to guard Yoav Katav who ran the point, hitting all 3 from the field, all 3 from the line (including a 1 and 1) had 2 steals, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and only 2 turnovers.
The Wildcats had a great night at the free-throw line shooting 78.6% (11 of 14) to the Knights 36.8% (7 of 19). Hochberg leads the Wildcats in free throw percentage at the halfway mark by a whisker (80.8% on 21 of 26 attempts) over teammate Chris Carlyle (80.6% on 29 of 36 attempts).
The Wildcats go to 4-6 on the season, and will return to action on Tuesday, 1/17/17 at Wootton High School tipping off against the Patriots at 7:15 p.m.
