On Friday night, the boys varsity basketball team won it’s 14th game of the year, 73-66 over Wootton. The Cats got off to a hot start, scoring 23 points in the first quarter. Philip Stubin and Abdel Nasser led the charge with 11 and 8 points, respectively, in the quarter. Hank Roll picked up the slack in the second quarter after sitting most of the first quarter with foul trouble. Fouls plagued the team all night as Roll, Nasser, and Stubin all had to come out with foul trouble at various points throughout the game.
After building a 10 point lead in the first half, the Cats watched a persistent Wootton team come back and cut the lead to 39-35 at the half. The Cats built the lead back up to 9 in the 3rd quarter, only to watch Wootton come back once again to tie the game in the 4th quarter. Huge defensive plays by Josh Forburger and Spencer Mahne, as well as clutch free throw shooting down the stretch, sealed the victory for the Cats.
Philip Stubin led a balanced scoring attack with 19 points, followed by Abdel Nasser with 16, Hank Roll with 12, and Spencer Mahne with 12. The victory brings the Cats overall record to 14-5 and moves them one step closer to clinching the top seed in the section for the playoffs. The Cats will play Rockville on Tuesday night at 7:15. See you there!
