Despite storming back from a slow start to take a halftime lead, the Wildcats fail to close out the contest on the road at Kennedy. WJ fell behind early, but caught the Cavaliers in the second quarter and took a 41-38 lead into the break. The lead changed hands in a fast-paced third quarter, but the Cats stayed within 2 entering the fourth. The Cavaliers inside game widened the margin throughout the final 5 minutes, however, and Kennedy free throws ballooned the score of what had been a close contest. Notably, the Cavs scored 19 from the stripe compared to the Wildcats’ 6.
The WJ starting backcourt combined for 47 points, with Kai Holloway (24) and Philip Stubin (23) vying for team-high scoring. Stubin was oh-so-close to the double-double, dishing 9 assists including 6 during the first-half comeback. He had 5 steals, and tied forward Bealu Bezabeh for the rebound lead, each pulling down 6 boards. Noteable: Senior forward Josh Forburger returned to action following an injury in December’s holiday tournament and scored 5 points.
The Wildcats next return home, and tipoff against the Blair Blazers at 7:15 on Wednesday, 2/5/2020.
