General Information:
Time Trials/Throwing Trials will be performed and a minimum time/distance must be reached in at least one event in order to make the final Indoor Track Roster. You must make one of the sprint times (100m, 200m, or 400m) in addition to the long jump standard, since you would be training with the sprinters. You cannot qualify solely based on the jump standard. A thrower, only needs to make the throwing standard to qualify. The time/throwing event standards are listed below for each event:

Tryout Information:
· Athletes will be split into three groups during the tryout period.
· Any athletes interested in the 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, or long jump, will try out with the sprint group.
· Any athlete interested in trying out for sprints will be expected to perform a 100m dash, 200m dash, and 400m dash time trial.
· Any athletes interested in the 800m run, 1600m run, or 3200m run, will try out with the distance group.
· Any athletes interested in the shot put, will be expected to perform a 100m dash time trial in addition to the throwing group trials.
· In order to make the final roster you must make one of the above time/throw standards.
Mission:
Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive and fun environment for all athletes to have a positive and meaningful experience, while participating on a competitive high school athletic team.
General Guidelines:
· Attendance is mandatory and will be taken at every practice.
· Athletes are expected to be on time for practice and team scheduled events.
· If you plan on missing a practice, you must notify a Coach no less than 24 hours in advance.
· If you plan on missing a track meet, you must notify a Coach no less than 72 hours in advance.
· An excused absence would be considered, but not limited to one or more of the following: appointments, illness and either didn’t attend school or went home during school, and emergency situations.
· A note or email from a parent/guardian is to be provided to the Head Coach upon returning to practice to confirm any appointments, illness, and/or emergency situations.
· Any injured athlete is expected to attend practice; otherwise it will be counted as an unexcused absence.
· If you are absent from school, tardy to school or any class, you will not be allowed to participate in practice or competition that day. However, you will still be expected to come to practice to watch, unless a Coach tells you otherwise.
· Athletes will be expected to train for multiple events.
· Athletes will run in meets they qualify for.
· Athletes will complete assigned daily workouts in a conscientious manner.
· Athletes are expected to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and have their own water bottle to utilize at each practice/meet.
· Athletes will follow the direction of a coach in any emergency situation.
· Athletes are expected to purchase their own competition uniform through the school.
· No cell phones at practice.
· After January 25th, only athletes that qualify for Regionals will still be required to attend practice.
· Athletes are allowed 2 unexcused absences. A third unexcused absence will result in the removal from the team.
Code of Conduct:
· Athletes will abide by all school/county rules, regulations, and policies.
· Athletes will exhibit good sportsmanship on and off the field of play.
· Athletes will comply with instructions from all coaches.
· Athletes will use language that is socially acceptable.
· Athletes will cooperate with teammates, coaches, and officials.
· Athletes will not leave practice without a coach’s permission.
· Hazing of any nature or any direct derogatory comments/actions to any teammate or coach will not be tolerated and result in the immediate removal of that athlete from the team.
· Athletes will engage in appropriate and professional usage of social media.
· If an athlete’s effort or actions are undermining team morale, it could result in the removal of that athlete from the team.
· Athletes whom are unable to make their best effort in training will be given the opportunity to improve their commitment, however, continued sub-standard effort will result in the removal from the team.
Varsity Letter:
A Varsity Letter will be awarded to those athletes whom display a full and total commitment to the team and their training. Any athlete that competes in a designated Varsity Track Meet, Invitational, MCPS Championship, 4A West Regional Championship, or Maryland State Championship will be awarded a Varsity Letter.
